IT firm Carvel Computing has opened the Education Payroll Bureau, processing payrolls for over 100 academies and maintained schools.
Carval has been providing education specific services since 2012, with the Education market now making up over a third of the company’s expanding payroll bureau services.
Carval’s range of solutions enables schools and academies to take a pick and mix approach to Payroll and HR services, choosing a flexible package to meet their exact requirements whether that is processing payroll completely in-house, totally out-sourcing, or a combination of the two, and with the option of fully integrated HR.

A BACS approved bureau, Carval uses its own Payroll software Uniwage which is part of HR Unity. It calculates all statutory payments (SMP, SPP, SSP, SAP and student loads), it processes incremental progression and pay awards, company sick pay and maternity pay, other third party BACS payments including HMRC, pensions, union fees and court orders.
The Carval Payroll Bureau can help with the assessment of employees for auto enrolment, producing monthly workforce pension letters. The service provides monthly management reports prior to payday, completion of EPF1 and EPF68s, monthly Teachers Pension Returns reported to the Local Authority for community schools and uploaded to the STU for academies. In addition, the service provides one payslip per employee, regardless of the number of posts held, simplifying the process for staff and saving significant costs on per-payslip charging.
