A pioneering IT Refurbishment business is giving UK educational institutions the opportunity to earn cash from unused tech equipment, whilst providing valuable support to schools in Ghana.

My Laptop Shop was founded in 2014 by Kim Lovatt, who boasts a distinguished background in the recycling industry. The company provides a valuable service to schools and service providers by responsibly repurposing old IT equipment.

Importantly, given tightening regulations on data protection, My Laptop Shop is a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, which means that schools can be reassured that industry-standard data-wiping techniques are used. Indeed, My Laptop Shop will provide certificates to prove that all equipment has been cleared properly.

What makes My Laptop Shop’s attractive is that residual value will be placed on your equipment, providing your school or organisation with a revenue stream. But, in addition, it feeds schools’ philanthropic ambitions via its ICT for Schools in Africa scheme.

Refurbished laptops and more are provided to schools in Ghana where teachers and students are struggling to get access to IT equipment, due to high costs in the territory. The scheme from My Laptop Shop uniquely provides Schools in Ghana with one laptop per child, which they can keep once they’ve left school.

“Many schools are unaware that they can ‘sell’ their unwanted IT equipment to us,” explains Director Kim Lovatt. “But there are still some who don’t realise that there is residual value left in their old laptops and tablets and just dispose of these devices the same way as their old IT waste.

“Schools can enjoy a new revenue stream by repurposing the equipment through our scheme, with peace of mind that all data is wiped in accordance with industry standards. And they will also be helping students and schools in Ghana to access IT equipment at a cost that’s affordable for them.”
