A Coventry-based company has been awarded a £1.1m contract to support unemployed young people. PET-Xi was given the contract following its partnership with Warwickshire County Council and is looking to aid any 15-24 year olds not in employment, education or training (NEET).

“Whatever their problem we will help,” said PET-Xi’s joint managing director Fleur Sexton, who added that young people facing debt, addiction or single parenthood have “fallen off their educational path” with “huge barriers to overcome”.

Understanding travelling issues for some young people, specially trained mentors known as ‘champions’ will be sent out onto the Warwickshire streets for support. Working with local community leaders, the goal is to reach out to 780 youths by September 2019.

With a focus on small and rural areas, local businesses are even chipping in to help pay for childcare and transport where requested. “We know how feeling proud of where you live and work has benefits for the area and the individual,” explained Fleur Sexton, describing PET-Xi as “a local company with local knowledge”.
